Ayurvedic Constipation-Relieving Tea
In our last blog post, we covered many practices from the wisdom of Ayurveda for addressing the pervasive issues of chronic or occasional constipation. But if we could only give you one suggestion, it would be this: Triphala Tea!
Triphala, the highly beloved three-fruit formula, made up of Haritaki, Amalaki and Bibhitaki, offers a gentle scraping/cleansing effect. Taking an infusion of Triphala daily, in the morning and before bed, will support regular elimination as well as tonify the bowels, ensuring easeful removal of the Mala of feces and all of the toxins that it carries out of the body.
The taste of Triphala can take some getting used to, and if it feels overwhelming at first, we suggest that Vata-predominant individuals sweeten it with high-quality honey (only after the water has cooled, as heating honey renders it toxic) or jaggery, while Pitta-predominant beings can use maple syrup. We don't suggest a sweetener for Kapha individuals.
We promise, that in time, as the body becomes more cleansed, the taste will gradually feel less alarming, and even normal!
If the desired results are not noticed, increase the dosage by 1/4 tsp per day.
